Anyone who has arrived in Cefalù by car on an August afternoon knows the scene: lines of cars crawling along the seafront, all hunting for the same, elusive free spot. Parking is the true Achilles' heel of a Cefalù holiday by car. In this guide you'll find the most useful parking areas — and at the end, a tip that will save you hours of searching.

Parking areas in Cefalù

Near the old town

The historic centre is a limited traffic zone (ZTL): no entering, no parking. The closest parking areas are along Via Roma, in Piazza Colombo and in the streets around the railway station. Almost all of them are paid (blue lines) during the day, with hourly rates that add up quickly in summer for a long stay.

Near the beach

For the main beach, parking concentrates on the Lungomare Giuseppe Giardina and the side streets behind it. In high season the spots run out by mid-morning: arrive after 10 and be prepared to park far away and walk.

The larger parking areas

The areas with the most capacity are near the station and at the western entrance of town. From there the centre is a 10-15 minute walk. They're the most sensible choice if you're staying all day: better an extra walk than an hour of spot hunting.

How much does parking cost

Blue-line parking in Cefalù has hourly rates that vary by zone and season; in the most central areas in summer, a full day's parking can cost as much as lunch. Free white-line spots exist, but in summer they're a mirage: counting on them for your daily holiday logistics is a losing bet.

Three mistakes to avoid

  2. Parking in residents-only spaces: yellow lines are enforced, especially in summer.
  3. Leaving the car "for five minutes" in a no-parking zone on the seafront: towing in high season is anything but rare.

The real trick: not needing a parking spot at all

Now, the honest question: is it worth spending your holiday fighting for a parking space? For most visitors the answer is no — and this is where a scooter changes everything. With a scooter:

  • you park in motorcycle bays, available even right next to the centre and the beach;
  • you slip in where a car can't, from village lanes to the little squares above the coves;
  • you spend less: scooter parking is often free and fuel costs are minimal;
  • you reach the beaches outside town (Mazzaforno, Sant'Ambrogio, Costa Turchina) where in summer a car struggles even to get close.
