The Most Beautiful Beaches Near Cefalù You Can Only Reach by Scooter or Rental Car

The beaches near Cefalù to reach by rental scooter or car

Cefalù's main beach is stunning, no doubt about it. But in summer it's also one of the most crowded in Sicily. The secret that regulars know well is that the most beautiful beaches lie outside town — 10, 15, 20 minutes down the road — and public transport simply doesn't go there. Here's the map of the coves worth the trip, all reachable in minutes with a rental scooter or car.

Mazzaforno: the coves to the west

About 10 minutes from Cefalù towards Palermo, the Mazzaforno area alternates sandy coves and rocky inlets with crystal-clear water. It's the perfect refuge when the town beach is packed: even in mid-August you can breathe here. Access is via little lanes descending from the state road — narrow, with very few car spaces, which explains why a scooter gives you a huge advantage.

Sant'Ambrogio: the village by the sea

To the east, the tiny village of Sant'Ambrogio offers a quiet shoreline of pebbles and flat rocks, with some of the most transparent water in the area. You get there in barely fifteen minutes, along one of the most scenic roads on the coast. The village is minuscule and parking spots are scarce: once again, two wheels highly recommended.

Costa Turchina (Finale di Pollina): a colour you won't expect

The name says it all: the "Turquoise Coast" near Finale di Pollina owes its fame to the intense turquoise of the water beneath the cliffs. It's a favourite spot for snorkelling lovers. From Cefalù it's a delightful 20-25 minutes along the coast road — ideal on a scooter with the sea always beside you.

Torre Conca: the family beach

Also in the Finale di Pollina area, Torre Conca beach is the most child-friendly: shallow water, sand mixed with fine gravel and the old watchtower as a backdrop. Here a car comes in handy if you're travelling with umbrella, toys and cool box in tow.

Capo Playa: kilometres of sand (and waves)

Between Cefalù and Campofelice di Roccella stretches the Capo Playa shoreline: kilometres of wide sandy beach where space is never an issue. With the right wind it's the meeting point for surfers and kiters. It's 10-15 minutes away and the road is easy for any vehicle.

How to plan your beach hopping

The beauty of having your own vehicle is that you don't have to choose: morning at Mazzaforno, afternoon at Sant'Ambrogio, sunset on Cefalù's seafront. A few practical tips:

  • Leave early: the best spots (parking and towel) go before 10 am.
  • Bring water and rock shoes: many coves are wild, with no facilities.
  • Mind where you park: outside marked bays you risk a fine even out of town.
  • Scooter for two, car for the family: the rule applies at the beach too. If you're undecided, our car rental in Cefalù page has both options.

Cefalù's "secret" beaches aren't really secret: they're just out of reach for anyone without a vehicle. Check scooter and car availability for your dates, pick two or three coves from this article and enjoy a sea most tourists will never see. And when you fancy a change of scenery after the beach, our itineraries towards the Madonie await.
